REQUIREMENTS, FEES, & FAQS
HOW MANY CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS DO I NEED TO COMPLETE?
Wyoming resident producers, adjusters, consultants, public adjusters, title agents, crop agents, credit agents, pre-need funeral agents, and adjusters with Wyoming designated as their home state shall complete 24 hours of continuing education each licensing period.
Non-residents are required to comply with their home state's continuing education requirements. There is no additional continuing education requirement in Wyoming for non-resident individuals.
DO I NEED TO PAY AN EXTRA FEE FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION?
Depending on the provider you choose, there may be a fee required to take continuing education courses.
As of January 1, 2023 there is no longer any continuing education fee assessed to licensees by the Wyoming Department of Insurance.
CAN I CARRY OVER CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS?
Yes! Effective January 2023, credits earned above the required 24 hours may be carried forward to the next renewal term. The only limitations are that the credits must have been completed within 120 of the license expiration date, a maximum of 12 credits may be carried forward, and all carry-over credits will only count as "general" education credits.
WHY AREN'T MY CLASSES COUNTING TOWARDS MY CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT?
This may happen for a few reasons.
The class you took has not been approved by the Department;
The provider offering the class did not register with the Department; or
You have already received credit for the class in the last 48 months. For instance, if you took a class on February 1, 2020 you may not receive credit for that class again until February 1, 2024.
Please be sure to check with providers prior to taking a class to ensure that the class has been approved by the Department. You should also check your continuing education transcript ↗ to avoid repeating classes.
WHEN DO I NEED TO HAVE MY CONTINUING EDUCATION COMPLETED?
Continuing education providers electronically file all course completions with the Department. Per W.S. § 26-9-231 ↗, providers have 15 days to file course completion certificates.
It is highly recommended that you complete all continuing education more that 30 days prior to your license expiration date.
CAN I GET AN EXTENSION TO FINISH MY CONTINUING EDUCATION?
No. The Wyoming Department of Insurance does not approve extensions to comply with the continuing education requirement for any reason.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T COMPLETE MY CONTINUING EDUCATION BEFORE MY LICENSE EXPIRES?
If your continuing education is not completed prior to your license expiration date your license will expire and go into the reinstatement period. You must finish your continuing education requirement prior to reinstating your license.
